The main goal of this course is to familiarize students with the basic demographic characteristics of the world population in the past, present and future; to understand the patterns of clustering the regions in the world with similar demographic characteristics; to be able to analyze the essential characteristics of each of the selected regions comparing to other regions in the world.
To recognize the basic functional development of the population in the past; to acquire knowledge about present trends; to be capable to make predictions about future demographic development in the world
Historical and contemporary world population trends; Population trends and dynamics in different historical epoch; Different phases in settling the world; Changes in regional distribution of the world population; Population density and areas of concentration; The most important population movement in the past; Zones of civilization; Contemporary polarization in dynamics of the world population and households; Regionalization of determinants of natural change; Contemporary world migrations; Gender, age and educational characteristics of the world population; Demographic process of urbanization in the world - causes and consequences; Future of the world population .
Analysis of the basic demographic trends by countries and continents (1950-2050): population dynamics, population density, natural change, migration in past and present (gender, age, education). Creation of demographic atlas, preparation, perform and managing the presentation, discussion.
